GREEN AFFORDABLE HOUSING PRINCIPLES
Green Affordable Housing is accessible to low income households and utilizes environmentally sustainable technologies.
HOUSING AFFORDABILITY AND ACCESS
This pillar focuses on the creation of new affordable housing units that serve this area's low and moderate-income families. This includes updating the existing housing stock and new construction projects. Funding for green affordable housing should be available in these communities.
SOCIAL EQUITY
This pillar is aimed at attempting to reserve the negative effects of minorities historically being excluded from the housing market and sustainability initiatives. Every resident of the Uptown 2030 district should have access to safe, healthy, and affordable housing.
ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY
This pillar focuses on the reduced environmental impact of green housing. This includes utilizing sustainable building materials, clean energy resources, and climate-resilient technologies. This is becoming increasingly important with the increasing temperature, frequency of storms, and natural disasters impacting cities due to climate change.
COMMUNITY PARTICIPATION AND EDUCATION
This pillar is about how any urban initiative should be guided by the needs and wants of the existing community. Additionally, residents should be educated on how to access green affordable housing and understand the benefits these programs could have in their neighborhood.
